DAYTON - The University of Dayton volleyball team claimed back-to-back straight-set wins over Illinois State and Central Michigan Saturday in the second day of the 2021 Flyer-Raider Invitational. Dayton downed Illinois State, 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-19), in Saturday's early game played at Wright State before picking up the 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-18) win over Central Michigan in the nightcap played at Frericks Center.
Dayton moves to an even 4-4 on the season. Illinois State is 2-6 overall while Central Michigan finished the weekend at 5-4 on the season.
MATCH ONE
Dayton 3, Illinois 0
• 14.0 - as a team, Dayton tallied 14.0 total blocks led by sophomore
Amelia Moore with eight blocks (2-6)
• 10 - senior
Jamie Peterson led the Flyer attack with 10 kills
• .342 - the Flyers posted team hitting percentage of .342 compared to the Redbirds' -.034 hitting percentage
MATCH TWO
Dayton 3, Central Michigan
• 17 & 10 - freshman
Lexie Almodovar recorded her fourth double-double of the season with match-high 17 kills to go with 10 digs
• .441 - Almodovar posted a season-high .441hitting percentage to lead all attackers
• 36 - sophomore
Livie Sandt set a match-high 36 assists to go with a career-high three blocks
300 WINS
Congratulations to head coach
Tim Horsmon who recorded his 300th career win at Dayton with the Flyers 3-0 victory over Illinois State.
UP NEXT
Dayton will wrap up the pre-conference portion of its schedule next weekend at the Michigan Invitational Sept. 17 and 18. On Friday, Dayton will square off against Boston College and Eastern Michigan followed by a Saturday afternoon matchup against host Michigan. The matches will be played at the Wolverines' Cliff Keen Arena.
