Women's Soccer Drops Sunday Tilt to Spartans

Flyers Round Out Non-Conference Play Sunday Afternoon

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team returned to Dayton Sunday, as they hosted the Michigan State Spartans at Roger Glass Stadium on the campus of CJ High School in a 1 p.m. match. The Spartans took an early lead in the 19th minute and would be out-shot in the match, but would take advantage of their scoring opportunities to down the Flyers 3-1.

Sunday's loss is the second of the week for the Flyers, who's record in the non-conference will finish at 3-3-2.

KEY MOMENT
The Flyers held a shot advantage throughout the game, but the key moment of the game was a Camryn Evans 64th minute goal, as she took the ball off the foot of second-half goalkeeper Maddie Crosbie, and slotted it into the open net to put the Spartans on top 2-0. Michigan State would add a penalty kick goal in the 72nd minute to go ahead 3-0. The Flyers kept firing on the Spartan net, but could not find the breakthrough goal they needed to get back in the game. Dayton would earn two penalty kicks in the final 60 seconds of the match, the second of which was put home by sophomore Adriana Alonso-Gomez to bring the final score of the match to 3-1. Laney Huber and Itala Gemelli led all Flyers with five shots each, with two of Huber's shot's registering on goal.
