#UDWSOC Earns First Atlantic 10 Win Thursday

Explorers No Match for Dayton's Potent Offense

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team opened the home portion of the Atlantic 10 Conference season on Thursday, as they welcomed the La Salle Explorers to Baujan Field for a chilly September 7 p.m. match. The Flyers controlled the majority of the possession throughout the match, but it remained a tight score with Dayton holding a 1-0 lead for most of the match. The Flyers finally broke through again twice late in the match, and would earn their first A-10 win by a final score of 3-0.

KEY MOMENT
In the 36th minute, La Salle defender Naya Vialva put in a very rough challenge on the sideline on the Flyers' Madison Wilson, a challenge that would take Wilson out of the match due to an injury, and earned Vialva a straight red card. From that moment on, the Flyers used the extra player to their advantage, keeping the majority of the possession in the Explorers' side of the field. Itala Gemelli had a breakout game for the Flyers, scoring two goals including a penalty shot in the 85th minute, and taking seven total shots in the match. Laney Huber netted her second goal of the season in the 84th minute of the match, and Gemelli earned an assist to give her five total points for the match.
