FAIRBORN, OHIO – The University of Dayton men's and women's cross country teams opened up their fall seasons Friday night, as they visited nearby Wright State University for the Mike Baumer Invitational at Fairborn Community Park. The Flyers came away with the overall victory, with the men placing first overall, and the women finishing in second.
 
COACH'S COMMENT
"With how much youth and inexperience we have on the squad, it really sets us up for a good progression as the season goes on," commented head coach Jason Ordway. "I'm really excited to see how we develop as the season progresses, after a good overall team showing to start the year."
 
MEN'S RESULTS
The men's team took the overall victory on Friday, posting four of the top seven overall times in the 5k race, the sole event of the day. Senior Brandon Christopher recorded the best time for the Flyers, finishing in fourth overall with a 15:18.4. Bryce Conley, Sam Duncan, and Connor Ewert would finish fifth, sixth, and seventh respectively, all within four seconds of Christopher.
 
WOMEN'S RESULTS
The Flyers women's cross country team finished second overall on the women's side Friday, finishing just under two minutes overall behind Ohio University. Sophomore Abby Carter posted the best time for the Flyers, finishing in fifth place with a time of 18:05.1. Zoe Chappelle rounded out the overall top-ten, as the sophomore posted an 18:25.2.

The men's and women's cross country teams will head to Cedarville University on Sept. 17 for the All-Ohio Championships.
