Women's Tennis Falls In Opener At Xavier Saturday Night

Paige Kompa And Claire Ghidotti Each Earn Singles Victories In Loss

CINCINNATI – The University of Dayton women's tennis team fell in the spring opener 5-2 at Xavier on Saturday night at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club in Cincinnati. Senior Claire Ghidotti and junior Paige Kompa each picked up victories in their spring debuts for the Flyers.
 
The loss put Dayton's record at 2-1 on the season after taking two matches in the fall. Xavier improves to 2-0 in 2022.
 
Dayton opened the match dropping the doubles point to the Musketeers. Junior Elizabeth Hamilton and freshman Laura Greb were knotted at 3-3 in No. 2 doubles, but UD failed to notch a victory in the first or third doubles flights to put the score at 1-0 Xavier.
 
Greb and fellow freshman Neena Katauskas each competed in their first collegiate spring dual match, while junior Erica Wojcikiewicz and Hamilton also saw their first action of 2022 in the loss.
 
Ghidotti took the court in the sixth singles flight, winning in straight sets over Xavier's Natalie Moyer 6-3, 6-3. The senior is now 8-3 in her career in No. 6 singles.
 
Kompa dropped the first set to Blessing Nwaozuzu in No. 4 singles before taking the final two frames to earn her fourth win of the 2021-22 season.
 
The Flyers will return home next Saturday for the home opener against Cleveland State. The match is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg.
