DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's tennis team fell on Saturday afternoon 4-3 to Cleveland State at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg. Juniors
Paige Kompa and
Elizabeth Hamilton and
Laura Greb each picked up victories during singles play in the loss.
The Flyers fall to 2-2 with the loss while the Vikings are now 1-0 in 2022. Dayton opened by falling in doubles play, with the Vikings taking all three sets to take a 1-0 match lead.
Kompa took down Cleveland State's Selma Tounsi in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 to put UD on the board. It marked the second straight victory for the junior in No. 4 singles after winning last week against Xavier in the same flight.
Greb also won in straight sets, picking up her first collegiate spring singles victory in the process in No. 5 singles. The freshman won a close 7-6 set before taking the match in set two 6-3.
Hamilton took the deciding third set after dropping set one 6-3 in No. 3 singles. The junior would battle back to take the next two sets by the same 6-4 score to give the Flyers their third point of the match, but Cleveland State won in No. 1, 2, and 6 singles to take the match.
The Flyers will return Sunday for their second match of the weekend, this time against Cincinnati. The contest is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at South Regency Tennis Center.
