DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team scored all three of their goals in the second half to defeat VCU in Atlantic 10 play Saturday.
The Flyers (9-0-4, 3-0-3 A-10) celebrated the win on Alumni Night while the Rams (1-7-5, 1-1-3 A-10) suffered their first conference loss.
KEY MOMENT
Final eight minutes – There were three goals in the final eight minutes of the contest and two cautions in an exciting final stretch.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
- 51:19 – Senior Jaden Jones-Riley curled home a looping shot to the back post for the opening goal of the game, his second on the season.
- 82:04 – Senior Forster Ajago doubled UD's lead with a left-footed finish off the cross from fellow senior Ousseynou Cisse. It was sixth goal and Cisse's first assist.
- 83:33 – VCU got a goal back off a quick shot in front of a crowded Dayton goal.
- 88:00 – The Flyers finished off the game with a quality, unassisted finish from freshman Basit Umar, his third goal of the year.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Dayton out-shot VCU 38-10 in the contest and put nine on target.
- The Rams had to go to their bench a lot in the game, using 19 different players.
- Umar had a team-high six shots, three on goal.
- Sophomore Michael Adedokun made his return to action after coming back from injury and had four shots in 42 minutes.
- Goalkeeper Dario Caetano had two saves.
