CHICAGO – The University of Dayton women's soccer team returned to road action in the Atlantic 10 on Sunday, as they were in the Windy City to take on the Loyola Ramblers. Putting their eight match winning streak on the line, the Flyers took care of business Sunday afternoon, taking down the Ramblers by a 1-0 final score.
Â
With the win, the Flyers have now won nine matches in a row, the most consecutive matches won since 2010 when Dayton won 11 in a row. The Flyers also have now equaled their win total from a season ago with 12, with four regular season matches still remaining. Dayton improves their record to 12-1-1, and continues to lead the Atlantic 10 with a 6-0 record. The Ramblers drop their second straight match, dropping to 6-5-2, and 2-3 in A-10 play.Â
Â
KEY MOMENT
Both sides played a strong defensive first half, with neither team finding the back of the opponent's net.
Itala Gemelli had two quality chances in the first frame, but one was turned away by the Ramblers keeper, and one flew just high of the crossbar.Â
Just nine minutes into the second half, the Flyers earned possession of the ball on their side of midfield, and an outstanding build-up from Gemelli,
Marlee Taylor, and
Diana Benigno landed the ball on the foot of
Noel Blain inside the 18-yard box. Blain got the ball to her left foot and smashed it past the keeper into the left side of the net, and put the Flyers on top 1-0 with her second goal of the season.Â
