Volleyball Closing 2022 Regular Season At Home Against Rhode Island

Flyers and Rams Are Set For Two At Frericks Center this Weekend

DAYTON - The University of Dayton volleyball team will wrap up the 2022 regular season versus Rhode Island this weekend. The Flyers and Rams are scheduled to play in Frericks Center Friday at 7 p.m. and again Saturday at 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Dayton will recognize its departing team members during Saturday's Senior Day recognition prior to the match.
 
ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (16-13, 10-6 A-10) split a pair of matches at home versus Loyola Chicago last weekend. The Flyers outlasted the Ramblers 3-2 on Friday night, snapping Loyola's 14-match winning streak, and lost 3-1 Saturday afternoon. At the net, junior Amelia Moore ranks first nationally with 150 total blocks and averages 1.33 blocks/set (23rd NCAA, 3rd A-10). On offense, sophomore Lexie Almodovar leads the league 3.97 kills/set and ranks third in the A-10 with .40 aces/set while junior Livie Sandt leads the team (2nd A-10) in assists/set with 8.83.

SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
Rhode Island (6-23, 2-14 A-10) comes into Dayton on a three-match losing skid after dropping two at George Washington last weekend. Claire Wagner leads the Rams' offense with 3.21 kills/set (4th A-10) and Katie Butler leads the Rams in assists with 7.54 assists/set (5th A-10). On defense, Hannah Blaney leads the team with 3.85 digs/game (7th A-10) while also serving up 0.36 aces/set (9th A-10).

URI head coach Angel Agu (Dayton '16) helped guide the Flyers to four NCAA tournament appearances.

SERIES STUFF
Dayton Leads, 38-10
The all-time series between Dayton and Rhode Island dates back to the Flyers first season competing in the Atlantic 10 Conference (1995) and UD has won 12 straight against URI. The pair last squared off on Oct. 30, 2021 as Dayton picked up a 3-1 win in Kingston, R.I.

LAST TIME OUT
The Flyers split a pair of matches versus Loyola Nov. 4 and 5. Sophomore Alyssa Miller recorded a double-double (36A/14D), her third of the season, and junior Amelia Moore posted a .611 hitting percentage with 11 kills in Friday's 3-2 win. On Saturday, sophomore Lexie Almodovar lead Dayton's attack with 15 kills in the 3-1 loss.

RPI RANKINGS
In the NCAA's Rating Percentage Index (RPI) through games on Nov. 6, Dayton ranked 130th according to NCAA.com. Rhode Island is ranked 287th.

FLYER FACTS
• Tim Horsmon is in his 14th season overall, and ninth since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2022. His record at Dayton is 339-103 and his career win-loss mark sits at 515-267 in 24 seasons as a head coach. Horsmon is the program's second-winningest coach behind only R. Elaine Dreidame who amassed 310 wins 1970-79.
• Over the last 13 seasons (2009-2021), the Flyers have recorded a 178-20 (.899) mark in regular season Atlantic 10 Conference play, including a perfect 14-0 mark in 2016, 2015 and 2012, a 15-0 record in 2010 and a 16-0 mark in 2021. UD suffered only one conference loss in 2020, 2019, 2017, 2014, 2011 and 2009.
• Dayton made its 22nd-consecutive and 25th overall appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2021. The Flyers have reached conference post-season play every year they have been a member of the A-10 except 1995 and 1999. UD holds a 33-10 record in league tournaments matches.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title 15 times (2021, 2020, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1998). The Flyers have won the A-10 Championship title a league-record 15 times (2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003).
• In the program's 16 NCAA Tournament appearances, Dayton has reached the Second Round nine times and the Flyers hold a 9-15 all-time record in NCAA tourney matches.
• During the 2014 season, Dayton surpassed the 1,000-win mark as a program to become just the 13th NCAA DI team to attain that level of success. The Flyers entered the 2022 season ranked 12th all-time in the Division I record book with an overall program tally of 1,193-607 (.663) over 52 seasons (1970).
• The Flyers finished the 2021 season with a 26-6 overall record and a 16-0 Atlantic 10 mark, finishing in first place in regular-season league play. 2021 was the program's 43rd winning season.
