DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team will head back out on the road to take on the University of Toledo Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. at Savage Arena.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton has battled through a tough non-conference slate and that continues with the Rockets Sunday as the Flyers are 0-9 on the year and 0-2 in true road games.
Head coach
Tamika Williams-Jeter is in her first season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.
As a team this year, the Flyers are averaging 63.3 points per game and giving up 72.7 points to opponents. Dayton is shooting 39.5 percent overall, 32.0 percent from three point range, and 74.0 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers benefit from a +5.6 rebounding margin.
Dayton is led by redshirt junior
Destiny Bohanon with 13.3 points and 3.1 assists per game while senior
Mariah Perez is adding 10.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per outing.
SCOUTING TOLEDO
Toledo is riding a four-game winning streak heading into the weekend, including a win over No. 14 Michigan last contest. The Rockets are 7-2 on the season and 3-1 at home, the lone loss coming to Duke.
Head coach Tricia Cullop is in her 15th season at UT and the future Hall of Famer has 429 career wins on her resume. She served as the President of the WBCA from 2019-22.
As a team, the Rockets are outscoring opponents 73.2 to 61.3 points per game. Toledo shoots 44.8 percent from the floor, 36.8 percent from behind the arc, and 77.4 percent from the charity stripe. UT is being outrebounded on average, but committing fewer turnovers.
Leading the way for the Rockets is Quinesha Lockett with 16.0 points and 4.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. Sammi Mikonowicz is contributing 9.7 points and a team-high 7.1 rebounds each contest while Sophia Wiard is adding 9.1 points per game and is shooting 40.9 percent from three.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton suffered a 90-83 loss at home to Fairfield Wednesday night after allowing the Stags to shoot 51.9 percent from the field. Perez had another career night for the Flyers with 24 points and 10 boards.
Toledo earned a thrilling upset over No. 14 Michigan on the road Thursday, 71-68. The Rockets stormed out to an early lead and held off the Wolverine rally as Toledo had five players score in double figures.
SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and Toledo are meeting for the 28th time in program history with the Flyers holding a 16-11 advantage. The two teams last squared off on Nov. 27, 2021 in Dayton with UD coming out on top 69-60.
STATISTICAL RANKINGS
As a team, Dayton 54th in the country in offensive rebounds per game and 63rd in total rebounds per game. Individually,
Mariah Perez is 22nd in the nation in offensive rebounds each outing and 25th in double-doubles.
Destiny Bohanon is also 37th in assist-to-turnover ratio and 42nd in minutes played.
DOUBLING-UP
Senior
Mariah Perez already has four double-doubles this season, giving her five for her career. She recorded double-digit points and rebounds in games against Northern Kentucky, Kentucky, Florida, and Fairfield already this season. On top of that, she was one point shy of another against Ohio with nine points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
