DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's tennis team will take on Ball State at home on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg.
Â
The Flyers sit at 5-3 this season after winning a fifth-straight contest last Friday against Youngstown State, extending the team's home winning streak to 17 matches.
Â
The performance earned junior
Connor Bruce his second consecutive Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week honor. Freshman
Eric Perkowski also was named Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week for the third straight time. Perkowski is the only freshman to win the award in 2022.
Â
Sophomore
Ronit Hiryur clinched the win over the Penguins, giving him a team-leading 10 wins this season. Bruce leads the team with six doubles victories in 2022, having clinched the doubles point in each of the past two matches with senior
Will Harper.
Â
Ball State enters the match at 2-2 this season, having last played on Jan. 30 after last weekend's match against Xavier was postponed due to inclement weather. The Cardinals fell at No. 6 Virginia and on a neutral court against Middle Tennessee in the Virginia ITA Kickoff Weekend.
Â
Danilo Kovacevic has played three of four matches at No. 1 singles, posting a 1-2 record in those contests. Ball State has yet to lose a match in flights four, five, and six, with Chris Adams, Eli Herran, and Vince Orlando combining for a 6-0 record so far in 2022.
Â
Ball State has won all six meetings since 2005, with the last match resulting in a 5-2 Dayton loss last March in Muncie. UD took the doubles point, but Harper was the only Flyer to pick up a win in singles play, taking down Parrish Simmons in No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-4.
