Women's Tennis Drops Conference Opener Against Massachusetts

Neena Katauskas Picks Up Two Wins In 6-1 Loss

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of Dayton women's tennis team fell to Massachusetts on a neutral court in their first outdoor match of the year 6-1. This marked the first of two matches at Charleston Tennis Center in Charleston, S.C. Freshman Neena Katauskas picked up two wins in the loss.

The Flyers drop to 7-7 on the year and 0-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while UMass improves to 8-3 and 2-0 against conference opponents.

Dayton opened the match by dropping the doubles point. Katauskas and sophomore Sarah DeMarco picked up the win in No. 3 doubles 6-2 over Anna Napadiy and Renata Farima, but the Minutewomen took the wins on the other two courts to put the Flyers down 1-0.

Katauskas continued that into singles play, taking a victory in No. 3 singles. The freshman took down Thamonpan Jonglertrakul in three sets 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 for her ninth singles win of the season, tying her with junior Elizabeth Hamilton and freshman Laura Greb for the team lead.

That was the only match the Flyers would take from UMass, dropping the other five singles flights.

UD will finish the weekend with a match on Sunday morning against Davidson. That match will also take place at Charleston Tennis Center.
