CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of Dayton women's tennis team fell to Massachusetts on a neutral court in their first outdoor match of the year 6-1. This marked the first of two matches at Charleston Tennis Center in Charleston, S.C. Freshman
Neena Katauskas picked up two wins in the loss.
Â
The Flyers drop to 7-7 on the year and 0-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while UMass improves to 8-3 and 2-0 against conference opponents.
Â
Dayton opened the match by dropping the doubles point. Katauskas and sophomore
Sarah DeMarco picked up the win in No. 3 doubles 6-2 over Anna Napadiy and Renata Farima, but the Minutewomen took the wins on the other two courts to put the Flyers down 1-0.
Â
Katauskas continued that into singles play, taking a victory in No. 3 singles. The freshman took down Thamonpan Jonglertrakul in three sets 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 for her ninth singles win of the season, tying her with junior
Elizabeth Hamilton and freshman
Laura Greb for the team lead.
Â
That was the only match the Flyers would take from UMass, dropping the other five singles flights.
Â
UD will finish the weekend with a match on Sunday morning against Davidson. That match will also take place at Charleston Tennis Center.
