Baseball Comes Up Short At Michigan In Series Finale

Dayton Falls 4-2 On Sunday

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Dayton baseball team fell 4-2 in the series finale at Michigan on Sunday afternoon. Redshirt freshman Andrew Casey hit a two-run double to drive in both runs for the Flyers at Ray Fisher Stadium in Ann Arbor.

Casey's double was one of just two hits for the Flyers against Michigan, with graduate student Alexis Castillo's single in the second inning marking the only two baserunners to reach via a base hit.

The Flyers fall to 8-9 this season, while Michigan improves to 11-8.

ON THE MOUND
Graduate student Kenny Serwa started the game for Dayton, going the first four innings, allowing four runs on five hits. Serwa picked up a pair of strikeouts and had allowed just one run through the first three frames until the Wolverines picked up three in the fourth.

Sophomore Parker Bard entered in the fifth, going the next three innings and allowing just one hit. Bard retired 10 of the 12 batters he faced, picking up two strikeouts in three scoreless frames.

Senior Bryce Hellgeth pitched the eighth for Dayton, blanking the Wolverines to keep it a two-run game late, allowing just a walk in his scoreless inning.

SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 1: (1-0 Wolverines)
Serwa got the first Michigan batter of the game out before a hit by pitch put one on. A ground ball to second advanced the runner into scoring position and a wild pitch put a runner on third with two outs. The Wolverines got a single into left to score the game's first run, but Serwa would get out of the inning by picking that same Wolverine off at first.

Top 4: (2-1 Flyers)
The Flyers took their first lead of the game in the fourth. Senior Marcos Pujols drew a one-out walk and two batters later Castillo was hit by a pitch to put two on with two outs. Casey followed that up by doubling off the left field wall on the first pitch of the at bat. Pujols and Castillo both came in to score and Dayton took a 2-1 lead.

Bottom 4: (4-2 Wolverines)
Michigan got the leadoff hitter on in the home half of the fourth and a home run gave Michigan the lead back. The Wolverines would draw a walk and advance the runner to second on a groundout to second. Serwa struck out the next batter to put a runner on second with two outs, but a base hit to left center brought in the final run of the game. Both teams would be held scoreless the rest of the way.
