NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Dayton baseball team opened a three-game series at Tulane with a loss on Friday night. The Flyers fell 12-1 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium in New Orleans. Junior
Alex Neff picked up two hits in the loss.

Alexis Castillo drove in UD's lone run of the contest, while freshman
Jacob Veczko picked up his first career collegiate hit in the ninth inning for Dayton. Junior
Thomas Braybrooks also put together a strong effort on the mound, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings and picking up three strikeouts.

The Flyers fall to 8-10 on the season, while Tulane improves to 15-7-1 in 2022.

Junior
Ryan Steinhauer got the start for the Flyers, going just the first 1.1 innings, giving up five earned runs on four hits before sophomore
Parker Bard entered in relief. Bard got the next out, giving up two runs on two hits in his third of an inning. Sophomore
Austin Brush got the final out of second, making his seventh appearance of the year.

Cody Whitten went the next 1.2 innings for Dayton, allowing four runs on two hits, picking up a pair of strikeouts. Braybrooks would be next pitcher out of the UD bullpen, picking up three strikeouts.

Sophomore
Nick Rispoli made his season debut in the seventh, giving up one run and picking up his first strikeout of the season. Sophomore
Nick Wissman was the seventh and final pitcher for Dayton, pitching a scoreless eighth and needing just 11 pitches to get through his inning of work.

Bottom 1 (2-0 Green Wave)
Steinhauer retired the first Tulane hitter, but a base hit and a two-run home run put Dayton down two runs after the first inning.

Bottom 2 (7-0 Green Wave)
Tulane scored five in the second on a two-run single and a bases loaded three-run double off of Bard to put the Flyers behind 7-0.

Top 4: (7-1 Green Wave)
Neff picked up one of his two hits to lead off the fourth inning. Redshirt freshman
Andrew Casey was hit by a pitch to put two on, and freshman
Mason Dobie advanced both runners with a groundout to first base. Castillo brought home Dayton's run with an RBI groundout to the shortstop to cut the lead to six.

Bottom 4: (11-1 Green Wave)
A leadoff triple and a sacrifice fly put the deficit back to seven runs, but Whitten struck out the next Tulane hitter to give Dayton two outs. Three-straight walks loaded the bases and a base hit scored two more. The fourth run of the inning would come on a wild pitch from Braybrooks.

Rispoli walked the first hitter, followed by a hit by pitch and two more walks to give Tulane the final run of the game.
