Men's Tennis Takes Both Matches Sunday

The Flyers Shut Out Saint Francis And Findlay

MIAMISBURG, Ohio – The University of Dayton men's tennis team shut out Saint Francis and Findlay to win two matches on Sunday and three over Senior Weekend at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg. The Flyers took down the Red Flash 7-0 before returning to beat Findlay 4-0.
 
The Flyers improve to 9-5 on the year with the pair of wins, while Saint Francis falls to 3-13 and Findlay drops to 5-9 this season.
 
Dayton opened against Saint Francis by taking the doubles point. Senior Steven Karl and sophomore Ronit Hiryur took down Christan Banti and Jordi Garcia in No. 3 doubles 6-0. Senior Joe DeMarco and sophomore Max DeCurtins clinched the doubles point with a win on the top doubles court 6-4 over Marc Fuste and Fabio Varella.
 
Junior Connor Bruce kept the momentum going into singles play with a three-set win over Sebastian Pinos 6-3, 2-6, 6-0. Sophomore Ronit Hiryur picked up a win on Court Two with a straight set win over Varella 7-6, 6-2.
 
Freshman Eric Perkowski picked up another win in singles play in the third singles flight. Perkowski took down Marc Fuste 6-3, 6-2 for his 12th win of the season. Karl also picked up a win in No. 4 singles, knocking off Andrew Teixeira 6-3, 6-2.
 
Sophomore Erik Eliasson won in No. 5 singles against the Red Flash. The sophomore won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 against Daniel Vinces. Freshman Davis Phillips rounded out the win for the Flyers in the sixth singles flight. Phillips also won in straight sets against Jordi Garcia 6-1, 6-2 to complete the 7-0 sweep of the Red Flash.
 
The Flyers returned to take down Findlay in the afternoon and again started with taking the doubles point. Bruce and senior Will Harper beat Luigi Bove and Dallas Ramsey 6-1 in the top doubles flight and Karl and Hiryur clinched the doubles point for the Flyers with a 7-5 win on Court Two.
 
Dayton then took three singles matches to clinch 4-0. Bruce won for the 13th time this season, taking down Bove 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. Hiryur won his team-leading 14th match this year in No. 2 singles over Alfredo Berlanga 6-1, 6-3 and Eliasson won his fourth straight match, taking down Andrew Codita 6-0, 6-2 in the fourth singles flight to round out the weekend for Dayton.
 
The Flyers will travel to Northern Kentucky to take on the Norse next Friday, March 11 at 7 p.m. at Five Season Sports Club in Highland Heights, Ky.
