DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's tennis team will wrap up the regular season on the road Wednesday at Butler. The Flyers will take on the Bulldogs at 3 p.m. in Indianapolis.
Â
Dayton owns a four-match winning streak and sits at 14-6 this season, having knocked off four different Atlantic 10 opponents in the last three weeks. This past weekend the Flyers defeated Davidson and Richmond in North Carolina to improve to 4-0 against conference opponents.
Â
Junior
Connor Bruce and sophomore
Ronit Hiryur are tied for the team lead with 16 wins in singles play this season. The two have each played exclusively at No. 1 and 2, respectively, during dual matches this season.
Â
Senior
Steven Karl is currently sitting at 66 career wins in singles play, one behind Jonathan Khoury for seventh in program history. He won both of his matches against Richmond and Davidson last weekend and will look to move up one more spot in the record books before the Atlantic 10 Championship.
Â
Butler is 10-10 in 2022 but has dropped each of the last three matches. The Bulldogs fell in two close Big East contests last weekend, dropping 4-3 matches to both Xavier and DePaul on Friday and Sunday. Thomas Brennan has played mainly at the No. 1 spot for the Bulldogs, but fell in both matches in the top singles flight over the weekend.
Â
Dayton is 4-11 against the Bulldogs dating back to 2005. The Flyers did take the last match against Butler on Feb. 2, 2019, using wins from Langford Hills, Spencer Richey, and
Steven Karl in singles play to win 4-3 in Indianapolis.
