Softball At Saint Louis Friday and Saturday

Flyers Facing Second-Place Billikens for Three Games this Weekend

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team is heading west for an Atlantic 10 Conference series at Saint Louis Friday and Saturday. The Flyers are set to square off against the second-place Billikens for a doubleheader Friday beginning at 1 p.m. followed by a single game Saturday, also at 1 p.m., at Billiken Sports Center.

SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS
Saint Louis (16-18, 8-3 A-10) is currently in second place in league standings and recently claimed a 2-1 series win at Saint Joseph's last weekend. SLU kicked off its five-game homestand Tuesday with a 3-2 loss to SIUE. Gabbie Kowalik leads the Billiken offense with a .377 average (4th A-10), 40 hits (3rd A-10) and 29 runs scored (1st A-10). In the circle for Saint Louis, Chloe Wendling carries the team's low ERA (2.50 - 2nd A-10) and has tallied 85 strikeouts (3rd A-10) in 131.2 innings pitched (1st A-10).

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (12-19, 7-7 A-10) is coming off a 1-2 weekend at George  Washington after giving the Colonials their first conference loss of the season with a 1-0 shut out win in the first game. Current A-10 Rookie of the Week Emma Schutter leads the Flyers at the plate with a .398 average (2nd A-10) and 41 hits (2nd A-10) to go with 17 stolen bases (2nd A-10). The Dayton pitching corps is paced by senior Kelsey Gumm with a league-best ERA of 1.98 and she has tallied 78 strikeouts (t-5th A-10) over 81.1 innings of work (7th A-10).

LAST TIME OUT
In the series finale on Sunday, Dayton dropped a 4-1 decision at George  Washington to close out its conference series in Washington, D.C. Freshman Chloe Wong knocked out her first collegiate home run and Schutter was the second Flyer with a multi-hit game after going 2-for-4 at the plate for the Flyers.
