DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team fell 7-0 on Friday night to VCU at Day Air Ballpark in Dayton. Junior
Ryan Steinhauer gave up just three earned runs and struck out seven in 5.1 innings of work against the Rams.

The Flyers fall to 18-20 and 6-7 in A-10 play. VCU improves to 23-17, 8-5 against conference opponents. Dayton held the Rams to just five hits, but only tallied two hits offensively.

Jake Silverstein were the two Flyers with hits on the day, and Calero reached twice, also drawing a walk.

ON THE MOUND
Steinhauer retired the first 13 VCU batters and did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. He allowed just two hits in the start, striking out seven Rams in his time on the mound. Sophomore
Parker Bard entered for Steinhauer with one out in the sixth, facing the next two hitters.

Eli Majick finished the sixth and pitched a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two in his 1.2 innings on the mound. Junior
Anthony Hattrup pitched the eighth inning, allowing a home run, and junior
Nick Maue finished the game, pitching a scoreless ninth inning with a strikeout.

SCORING PLAYS
Top 6: (6-0 Rams)
Back-to-back walks to open the sixth were followed by a sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk to load the bases. A catcher's interference brought home the first run of the game. A double to left center field scored two more to make it 3-0 VCU. Bard entered for Steinhauer and hit the first batter he faced and walked in the fourth run of the inning. The final two runs of the game came on a throwing error to put the Flyers down 6-0.
