DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team rounded out the non-conference schedule Sunday afternoon, as they hosted the Akron Zips on Senior Day at Baujan Field.
Â
The Flyers owned the bulk of the possession at 61%, and were able to net a goal each half of the match to earn a 2-0 victory. The Flyers finish non-conference play with a 6-1-1 overall record, while the Zips fall to 1-2-2 after losing their second in a row.
Â
KEY MOMENT
Dayton dominated possession throughout the first half, and also held the Zips to just two shots, none of which were on frame. The Flyers would find their breakthrough in the 18
th minute of the match, as a well-placed ball into the box from senior
Yaiza Navarro Leon found the foot of senior
Audrey Steiert, and Steiert placed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to put Dayton on top 1-0.
Â
Steiert's goal would prove to be the match winner, but newcomer
Mairin Wessner would add an insurance goal in the 86
th minute to secure the 2-0 lead, and eventually the victory for Dayton.
