Women's Soccer Starts A-10 Play With Road Victory

Flyers Best Davidson To Win Fourth Straight Match

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Dayton women's soccer team opened up the Atlantic 10 schedule on Thursday night, as they traveled to North Carolina to take on the Davidson Wildcats.

The Flyers battled their way to a win, their fourth consecutive since dropping a non-conference contest to Ohio State. Dayton improves to 7-1-1 with the win, and the Wildcats suffer their first loss of the 2022 campaign, running their season record also to 7-1-1.

COACH'S COMMENT
"It was important to start the A-10 season with a win, so it was a good result on the road against a Davidson team that has been in great form this season," commented head coach Eric Golz. "Credit to them because they made it quite difficult for us tonight, and we made it difficult on ourselves at times.  We were able to make some big plays in game-changing moments on both sides of the field to grind out the win.  We are pleased with the result and in finding some different ways to get a critical win on the road against a quality team."

KEY MOMENT
As she has done for a large portion of the season, Itala Gemelli provided the breakthrough for the Flyers in Thursday night's road match. In the 27th minute, Gemelli received an excellent pass from the foot of Laney Huber, and put it past Davidson goalkeeper Mary Grace Bunch to put the Flyers on top 1-0. The defense of the Flyers helped make that lone goal stand up in the match, limiting the Wildcats to just three shots on goal in the entire match.
