No. 17 Men’s Soccer Stays Unbeaten With Win Tuesday

The Flyers Outshot The Panthers 51-2

DAYTON  - The 17th-ranked University of Dayton men's soccer team defended its home field in a 2-0 victory over Eastern Illinois University Tuesday night at Baujan Field.

The Flyers (5-0-0) head into Atlantic 10 play with an unbeaten record while the Panthers (1-3-1) drop their third game.

KEY MOMENT
  • 2nd half – Dayton dominated the second 45 minutes with 31 shots to EIU's two attempts and scored both of its goals.
SCORING BREAKDOWN INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Dayton outshot EIU 20-0 in the first half alone. The Flyers went on to out-shot the Panthers 51-2.
  • The Flyers moved up in the United Soccer Coaches poll just before the game from No. 18 in the nation to No. 17.
  • Adedokun had a season-high 12 shots in the contest, putting three on target.
  • Goalkeeper Dario Caetano recorded his third shutout of the season.
  • Ajago and Sanchez both scored to stay tied for the team-lead with four goals each. That ranks them tied for 12th in the nation individually.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"It was a frustrating night having 51 shots and only scoring two goals," said head coach Dennis Currier. "Our overall accuracy was just off tonight. I have to give a lot of credit to EIU's goalkeeper as well coming up with 13 saves. Ultimately, we found a way to win and will continue to work on improving this week in training for the start of our conference play."

UP NEXT
  • The Flyers will remain at home for the Atlantic 10 opener against Saint Joseph's Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field.
