Women's Soccer Earns Second Straight Victory Thursday

Flyers Remain Unbeaten On The Road With Win Over Butler

INDIANAPLOIS, Ind. – The University of Dayton women's soccer team was in action Thursday night, as they were on the road to take on the Butler Bulldogs. The Flyers took a lead in the first half, and were able to hold off Butler in the second half to hang on for a 2-1 road victory.

The Flyers remain unbeaten on the road this season after Thursday's victory, and bring their record to 5-1-1 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 3-3 with their second consecutive loss.

COACH'S COMMENT
"This was a great result and a great performance on the road against a very good Butler team," commented head coach Eric Golz. "The team was disciplined and patient in their approach, we showed a ton of grit defensively. When we had the ball, we did a good job in identifying when to build and when to counter, we scored two great goals and thought that we could have had a couple more.  We showed some growth and maturity tonight.  I am proud of the team's performance, and excited to build on this on Sunday when we celebrate Senior Day against Akron."

KEY MOMENT
The Flyers earned a penalty kick early in Thursday's match, as a Butler foul in the box in the 11th minute gave Itala Gemelli her first chance of the year from the penalty spot, and she found the back of the net to open the scoring in the match. Gemelli would go on to score her fourth match-winning goal of the season in the second half, as her right footed strike from the top of the 18-yard box in the 51st minute proved to be the difference.
