PEORIA, Ill. – The University of Dayton women's cross country competed in their first 6K of the 2023 season at Bradley University on Friday. They ended with a team ranking of 15th place out of 32 teams.
Abby Carter and
Zoe Chappelle were the Flyers' top finishers, with Carter setting yet another personal record.
Carter's 10th place finish came with a PR time of 21:14.4 for the 6K. Her 11.7 second improvement over her previous PR brings Carter from the 10th to the 8th-best 6K time in UD history. Chappelle finished behind Carter with her 74th place finish of 22:26.8. Head Coach
David Dobson commended Carter's consistent success while expressing the need for overall team improvement as the team nears the championship season.
"Abby continues to lead the women with strong up-front racing," said Dobson. "The team brought good effort and energy today, but we did not look as sharp as I would have hoped. We're not discouraged as they competed. However, I'm confident that there is more in the tank, and we just need to figure out how to help them express their fitness better over the 6K distance."
The Flyers will compete at Wright State University yet again on Friday, October 20 as they wrap up their regular season.
