Women’s Cross Country Finishes Season At NCAA Great Lakes Regional

Three Flyers Finished In The Top 100 Overall

MADISON, Wis. – The University of Dayton women's cross country team concluded their fall season at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional by finishing in 18th place out of 32 teams. Three of the seven Flyers competing finished in the top 100 overall, and Justine Smith made her debut in the cross country record book. This was the last race of the fall season given that the team did not place in the top two or receive an at-large bid.

Abby Carter was the top finisher for the Flyers as she finished in 38th place overall with her 6K time of 21:19.2. Zoe Chappelle also achieved a top-100 spot by finishing in 98th with her 22:12.6 time. Lastly, Justine Smith rounded out the top 100 by finishing in 100th with her PR time of 22:14.7. Smith's time is now the 25th-best 6K time in program history.

Coach's Quote

How was the team's performance today reflective of their effort at today's race and the season as a whole?

"I am really proud of the efforts of our athletes today," shared Head Coach David Dobson. "The women raced to belong and be tough, and they successfully accomplished the task. We feel disappointed to give up team places by a few points in the last 2K, but as a program we can choose how we respond to that disappointment. I believe we'll choose to learn and grow."
