LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After the University of Dayton baseball team jumped ahead of No. 9 Louisville with five runs in the first two innings Friday, March 10, the Cardinals struck back in a big way in the fifth frame with nine runs that carried the home team to an 11-7 victory at Patterson Stadium.
Freshman
Eddie Yamin IV crushed his third home run of the season to put the FlyBoys ahead 2-0 in the first frame. An inning later, senior
Ben Jones drove in the third run of the game on a fielder's choice, and fellow senior
Marcos Pujols followed a batter later with a two-run double.
After Louisville plated nine runs in the fifth and single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, and Dayton struck back for a pair in the ninth. Junior
Carlos Castillo picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly, and Pujols drove in Jones on a ground out.
