COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Dayton baseball team came up short in the finale of its series against Ohio State University on Sunday, March 19Â falling 12-8 at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
The FlyBoys got on the board first thanks to first-inning doubles from
Ben Jones and
Eddie Yamin IV. UD plated two more in the fourth to go ahead 3-0, but the Buckeyes' bats came alive in the middle innings.
After OSU plated four runs to take the lead in the home half of the fourth, Jones hit his second home run of the series in the fifth inning to tie the score at 4-4. Junior
Carlos Castillo launched his second home run of the campaign, a two-run blast, an inning later to put Dayton ahead, 6-4
Ohio State busted out for three runs in the sixth and added five more in the seventh to take a commanding lead into the latter part of the contest.
Dayton tried to mount a rally in the ninth, scoring a pair of runs, but a double play ended the threat.
