HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Senior
Ben Jones had a career-best five hits, but the University of Dayton baseball team fell in a slugfest, 12-9, at Northern Kentucky Tuesday afternoon.
Jones launched his team-leading seventh home run and added a pair of doubles and singles to his day, raising his batting average to .382 for the season.
Both teams scored four runs in the first inning and the Norse were able to grab a lead with a pair of runs in the second and third innings. UD battled back to take the lead with a three-run fourth, thanks in large part to Jones's two-run homer.Â
The lead did not last long, as NKU came back an inning later to put up another four-spot and take a commanding 10-7 lead. Dayton brought the game back within a run at 10-9, but a two-run homer provided key insurance for the Norse and brought the game to its final of 12-9.
