DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team will close out the home portion of its 2023 schedule Wednesday with a doubleheader against Morehead State. The Flyers and Eagles will get underway at 2 p.m. April 26 at UD Softball Stadium and admission is free. Both games will be available to follow via live stats at Statbroadcast.com as well as via video stream on ESPN+.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (30-14, 14-3 A-10) has won 15 of its last 17 games and sits atop Atlantic 10 Conference standings heading into the second-to-last weekend of the regular season. Dayton has six players hitting above .300 led by sophomore Emma Schutter (.466 - 8th NCAA) who has tallied 69 hits (4th NCAA), 37 runs and 27 stolen bases (17th NCAA) while sophomore Maddie Kapsimalis (.406) leads the team with 12 doubles and is tied with graduate student Alyssa Cacini (.323) with 12 walks. The Flyers' pitching corps is led by Izzy Kemp (11-5) with a 1.65 ERA with 162 strikeouts (25th NCAA), eight complete games and four saves (20th NCAA) over 118.2 innings pitched.

SCOUTING MOREHEAD STATE
Morehead State (11-24, 6-12 OVC) is currently suffering through a seven-game losing streak capped off by three conference losses at Eastern Illinois this past weekend. The Eagles' offense is paced by Emily Williams with a .344 average, 32 RBI, 20 walks and 10 home runs while Peyton Jordan (.321) has tallied a team-best 35 hits. Jessie Begley (4-6) carries the team's low ERA of 3.80 while Madi Ogden (4-9) has collected 55 strikeouts and worked five complete games.

Morehead State claimed two wins at Dayton on April 7, 2021, both by a single run, to snap the Flyers' seven-game winning streak in the series.

RPI RANKINGS
In the NCAA's Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for games through April 24, Dayton came in at 115 according to NCAA.com. Morehead State was ranked 249.

After 44 games in 2023, the Flyers are 76-and-87 in stolen bases led by sophomore Emma Schutter (26 - 1st A-10, 17th NCAA) senior Emily Daniel (25 - 2nd A-10, 26th NCAA). The team's 76 stolen bases on the season is a new program single-season record and the squad's 1.73 stolen bases per game ranks 38th in all of NCAA DI.

#WINNING
Dayton head coach Cara Clark-LaPlaca tallied her 233rd career win at UD on April 15, 2017 at La Salle, surpassing former Flyer head coach Jodi Eickemeyer as Dayton's all-time winningest coach. She now has 375 wins at UD.
Notable - coach Clark-LaPlaca currently has 506 career wins over 22 seasons as a head coach.

THREE STRIKES YOU'RE OUT
Over 118.2 innings pitched in 28 appearances for the Flyers, freshman right-handed pitcher Izzy Kemp currently ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with 162 total strikeouts and second in the league with 39 batters struck out looking. Her average of 9.6 strikeouts per seven innings ranks 21st nationally.

BRING ME HOME
Graduate student Alyssa Cacini leads the team and ranks fifth in the conference with 30 RBI on the season. For her career, Cacini has knocked in a total of 122 runs which currently ranks fourth all-time in program history. Former Flyer Abby Ehrenborg holds the all-time record with 134 career RBI.

TEAM SAVES
Three Flyer pitchers have combined for nine saves on the season and the Dayton pitching squad is just one save away from tying the single-season school record of 10.

CAREER CRIMINALS
Senior Emily Daniel and sophomore Emma Schutter have moved into Dayton's top 10 all-time stolen bases list this season. Schutter is now tied for second place all-time with 50 career stolen bases while Daniel, who spent her freshman season (2020) at Wright State, is in third place with 49 career stolen bases for the Flyers. Molly Meyer (2007-10) holds the program record with 66.
