FAIRFAX, Va. - The University of Dayton baseball team surrendered a seven-run fifth inning to George Mason and never recovered Saturday afternoon, ultimately falling 11-0 to George Mason in Atlantic 10 play at Spuhler Field.
After the two teams traded minor threats in the first four innings of play, the Patriots erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning behind a double, two hit-by-pitch, and three infield hits. When the dust settled UD was trailing 7-0.
GMU added a pair of runs on a home run in the seventh frame and added one more in the eighth to bring the game to its final score of 11-0.
Dayton finished the game with six hits. Senior
Ben Jones led the way with a two-hit performance, while junior
Paxton Tomaini added a double.
