#FlyBoys Take Series From Over George Mason with 6-5 Victory

Seniors Ben Jones And Marcos Pujols Each Had 3-Hit Games

FAIRFAX, Va. - Seniors Ben Jones and Marcos Pujols each tallied three-hit games as the University of Dayton baseball team improved to 4-2 in Atlantic 10 play with a 6-5 victory over George Mason Sunday afternoon at Spuhler Field.

Jones went 3-for-5 with a run scored out of the leadoff spot, while Pujols went 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored to lead the Flyers' offense.

After George Mason jumped in front with a run in the home half of the first inning, UD struck back in the second thanks to a bases-loaded, two-run single by Pujols. Sophomore Mason Dobie came home a batter later on a stolen base of home to go ahead 3-1.

The lead lasted just one full inning as the Patriots scored a pair of runs to knot the game at 3-3.

Sophomore Matt Maloney left the yard for his third home run of the season to put Dayton ahead in the sixth inning, and the FlyBoys would add two more crucial runs in the seventh thanks to a clutch two-out, two-run single by senior Jay Curtis to go ahead 6-3.

GMU immediately closed the gap thanks to a two-run blast in the home half of the seventh inning, but Andrew Zapka would slam the door for his first save of the season, pitching the final two innings to close the game out.
