DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team used a second-half, four-goal flurry to rally past Loyola Maryland, 4-1, in the 2023 season opener Thursday night at Baujan Field.
 
Key Moments
After allowing a goal in the opening stanza, the Flyers (1-0-0) pushed the action in the second half and broke through in the 66^th minute when senior Madison Wilson headed a perfect re-direct on a feed from fellow senior Diana Benigno to pull even with the Greyhounds.
 
UD struck again in the 74^th minute as fifth-year Marlee Taylor put the Flyers ahead with a score from distance to put Dayton ahead for good.
 
The Flyers capitalized again just a few moments later, converting a Loyola Maryland turnover into a goal thanks to Karli Ferguson beating two defenders plus the keeper for her first of the season.
 
Dayton put the exclamation mark on the game when sophomore Mairin Wessner converted her first touch of the season on a rebound from a Kyra Karfonta shot.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
With the win, Dayton improves to 5-1-1 in season openers under head coach Eric Golz.
 
Karli Ferguson's goal was the first of her collegiate career.
 
Sophomore Batoul Reda made five saves in the season opener.
