Women's Soccer Welcomes Massachusetts for A-10 Opener

The Flyers And Minutewomen Kick Off At 1 P.M.

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team returns to the friendly confines of Baujan Field for its Atlantic 10 home opener Sunday, Sept. 17 when the Flyers welcome the University of Massachusetts to town for a 1 p.m. match.

PACK THE HOUSE!
• Sunday is a busy day in the promotional realm as the Flyers try to pack Baujan. It is both Alumnae Day as well as the final Youth Day of the season. The team will be signing autgraphs after the match.

FIRST SCORELESS DRAW SINCE...
• After not having a scoreless draw in over a season, the Flyers had their second 0-0 contest of the 2023 campaign in the Atlantic 10 opener at St. Bonaventure.

• UD also played Illinois to a 0-0 draw, its first scoreless tie since the NCAA moved to eliminate regular season overtime.

• The last time the Flyers earned a scoreless draw was in the 2021 season when it finished 0-0 after two overtimes at the University of Kentucky.

STIFLING DEFENSE
• Dayton's defense was suffocating at St. Bonaventure on Thursday night, limiting the Bonnies to just four total shots. The combination of the backline defenders (Alicia Donley, Mackenzie Lutz, Ella Raimondi and Kyra Karfonta), as well as the defensive midfielders (Marlee Taylor and Yaiza Navarro Leon) stymied the SBU attack all night.

• Starting keeper Batoul Reda faced just four shots in the game, all of which were on goal. The sophomore is third in the A-10 in save percentage (.848) and third is saves (39).

BACK ON TRACK
• The Flyers got back on the right track Sunday, tying Michigan State on the road, 2-2, to finish the non-conference season 5-1-2.

• Dayton got goals from Mackenzie Lutz and Madison Wilson to lead the way, while Batoul Reda made four saves and faced 21 total shots.

LUTZ'S FIRST CAREER GOAL
• Fifth year defender Mackenzie Lutz was called on to take a penalty kick against Michigan State on Sunday, converting in the 65th minute for her first career goal.

• Lutz was a preseason All-Atlantic 10 honoree after earning a first team nod each of the last two seasons. After leading the team in total minutes each of the last two seasons, the Slyvania, Ohio native leads the Flyers once again in 2023 with 687.

SERIES HISTORY
• Dayton and Massachusetts have played 26 times in program history, with the Flyers holding the all-time advantage 20-5-1.

• The Flyers are 9-2-0 against the Minutewomen when playing at Baujan Field, including a 2-0 victory in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinal a season ago.

• Last year's match saw Laney Huber tally her second goal of the season and was assisted by Diana Benigno.

• The Flyers held a 15 to 10 advantage over the Minutewomen in shots, and added narrow advantage in shots-on-goal (6 to 5), saves (5 to 4) and corners (6 to 2).

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
• Dayton is 5-1-3 after finishing with a scoreless draw in the Atlantic 10 opener at St. Bonaventure Thursday night.

• Junior Noel Blain and senior Madison Wilson lead the Flyers with nine points on the season. Blain has scored a team-best four goals and registered an assist, while Wilson has scored three goals and added three helpers.

• Sophomore keeper Batoul Reda has 39 saves on the season against 93 total shots for a save percentage of .848 and boasts a 5-0-3 record.

SCOUTING THE MINUTEWOMEN
• Massachusetts is 4-2-2 on the season, including a 1-0 start to Atlantic 10 play. The Minutewomen are 1-2-2 in road games on the season.

• Junior Ashley Lamond leads UMass with 10 points on the campaign, scoring four goals and adding a pair of assists. Bella Recinos has seven points on the season thanks to three goals and an assist.

• Keeper Bella Mendoza has made six starts on the season, playing 634:12 on the campaign. She has made 27 saves against 81 total shots for a save percentage of .818.
