DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will remain on the road and returns to Atlantic 10 play, taking on Saint Joseph's Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton heads to Philadelphia with a 2-5-1 record on the year and 1-0 A-10 mark. The Flyers have played better than their record shows going up against NCAA tournament participants like Western Michigan and No. 2 West Virginia.
Head coach
Dennis Currier is in his 19th season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the 2020 season.
As a team, the Flyers are averaging 2.00 goals per game and giving up 1.75 goals to opposing teams. Dayton ranks fourth in the country in shots per game and 16th in total goals.
The Flyers are led by sophomore
Joseph Melto Quiah and freshman
Hjalti Sigurdsson with three goals each while senior
Ousseynou Cisse has three assists to go with one goal. Senior goalkeeper
Dario Caetano has two shutouts and 21 saves through eight games.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
SAINT JOSEPH'S
Saint Joseph's is set to host Dayton after a draw in their first match in A-10 play followed by dropping a road match vs Monmouth. The Hawks hold a 2-5-2 record overall and are yet to win a home match (0-4).
Head Coach Don D'Ambra is in his 14th season as the head coach for Saint Joseph's and holds a 61-131-33 record during his tenure.
On the field, the Hawks score 1.00 goals each contest on 8.8 shots per game. On the defensive end they currently rank second in the Atlantic 10 with 32 saves on the season, saving 3.5 goals per game.
The Hawks are led by junior, Blake Driehuis who has scored six goals on the season, second most in the A-10. Another contributor on the offensive front is Bart Kooistra, a Graduate student, who has two goals and two assist on 17 shots.
LAST OUTING
Dayton went on the road to take on No. 2 West Virginia Tuesday and battled to a 1-0 loss to the Mountaineers despite controlling the tempo of the contest throughout.
Saint Joseph's traveled to Monmouth Tuesday and also dropped a 1-0 decision after giving up a PK in the 47th minute. The Hawks were out-shot 19-10 in the effort.
SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and Saint Joseph's have met 20 times previously with the Flyers holding a 16-1 series advantage. UD and SJU drew in last year's contest 1-1 at Baujan Field.
SIGURDSSON NAMED DAYTON MALE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK TWICE
The University of Dayton Athletics Division chose its student-athletes of the week for Aug. 30 and recognized graduate student
Hjalti Sigurdsson as the College Sports Advantage Male Student Athlete of the Week for Dayton. He received the award again on Sept. 20 for his hat trick against Rhode Island.
DAYTON DUO EARNS ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS
The Flyers had a pair of student athletes recognized on the Ohio State Wolstein Classic All-Tournament Team. Grad student

Casper Svendby both picked up accolades for their efforts in games against UC Davis and CSUN.

The United Soccer Coaches announced their preseason Top Players to Watch and recognized Dayton sophomore
Basit Umar as one of the Top 25 male student-athletes to look out for, one of two A-10 honorees (Marc Torellas, Loyola).
FLYERS PICKED 2ND IN PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish second this upcoming season in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll. The Flyers received 161 points behind reigning A-10 Champs Saint Louis, who earned 13 of the 14 first-place votes, Loyola Chicago earning one.
UP NEXT
The Flyers will return home to host Cleveland State on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
