Late Penalty Hands Men’s Soccer Road Loss At Michigan State

The Flyers Were Unable To Overcome The Host Spartans

EAST LANSING, Mich.  - The University of Dayton men's soccer team battled throughout the night on Thursday, but left with a late 1-0 loss at Michigan State.

The Flyers (1-3-1) continue their tough week while the Spartans (3-0-1) stay unbeaten on the year.  

KEY MOMENT
  • 84th Minute – With an evenly matched game throughout, it wasn't until the final six minutes that Michigan State was able to break the deadlock.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • 83:05 – Michigan State converts the penalty kick in the 84th minute to take the initial lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • With rainy conditions, play was erratic in the first half with Dayton recording five shots and Michigan State getting three. None were on target for either team.
  • Overall, the Flyers totaled 11 shots to the Spartan's 12 in the contest.
  • UD had 14 fouls including five yellow cards. MSU had two cautions on nine fouls.
  • Graduate student Manny Day led the team with four shots.
  • Seven Flyers played all 90 minutes on Thursday.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"The team competed very well tonight and I felt we controlled many phases of the play and deserved a bit more out of the result," said head coach Dennis Currier. "It was an unfortunate call at the end of the game, but we have to contiune to work through the adversity."

  • The Flyers head back north to Michigan Sunday to take on the Broncos of Western Michigan at 1 p.m.
