Men’s Soccer Earns Road Win At St. Bonaventure

The Flyers Are Unbeaten On The Road This Season

OLEAN, N.Y. - The University of Dayton men's soccer team traveled to St. Bonaventure University Saturday and picked up a crucial three points in Atlantic 10 play with a 2-1 victory.

The Flyers (7-2-3, 2-1-2 A-10) got its second win of the week while the Bonnies (6-6-3, 2-2-2 A-10) suffered their second league loss.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • 9:28 – Freshman Andrew Armstrong breaks past the Bonaventure back line and scores the opening goal in the 10thg minute.
  • 20:15 – The Bonnies managed to tie the game up in the 21st minute after an own goal by the Flyers.
  • 48:26 – A corner taken by sophomore Martin Bakken was headed home by graduate student Hjalti Sigurdsson for his sixth goal of the season and gives UD back the lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Dayton outshot St. Bonaventure 16-7 and put nine on target compared to the Bonnies' four.
  • Armstrong led UD with five shots, four of which were on goal, while senior Joseph Melto Quiah had four shots.
  • Graduate student goalkeeper Dario Caetano had four saves in the victory, including a stop on a penalty attempt by the Bonnies.
  • Fouls were 10-8 in favor of the hosts.
  • Dayton has lost just one game in the past 10 contests and is unbeaten on the road this year.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"This conference road win caps off a great week for our program," said head coach Dennis Currier. "We knew it would be difficult to exude the same energy we had on Tuesday night so we really had to will ourselves to victory today. We missed several chances to finish the game off so we had to rely on some excellent defense including the save by Dario."

UP NEXT
  • The Flyers remain on the road next weekend to face Davidson Saturday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. in North Carolina.
