SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The United Soccer Coaches announced their men's soccer All-America teams Friday and recognized a pair of University of Dayton student-athletes.
Senior
Joseph Melto Quiah and graduate student
Hjalti Sigurdsson were both named USC All-Americans after their outstanding achievements on the pitch this past season.
A Second Team All-America honoree, Melto Quiah finished up three years at UD with career-highs of eight goals, six assists, 22 points, and 87 shots which led all of Division I. The Liberia native earned First Team All-Atlantic 10, First Team All-Region, and A-10 All-Championship Team honors. In 47 games in the red and white, Melto Quiah recorded 14 goals and 16 assists while attempting 170 shots and playing 3,519 minutes. He earned A-10 accolades all three seasons as well.
Sigurdsson adds Third Team All-America honors to his Academic All-America award earned earlier this week. The Icelandic centerback is finishing up his masters in engineering while leading all defenders in goals, assists, and points in Division I. He was named A-10 Defender of the Year, First Team All-Conference, and First Team All-Southeast Region, while being just as successful in the classroom.
This marks the first time Dayton has had two All-Americans in the same year in program history and the first since Amass Amankona in 2015.
Dayton men's soccer has now had nine All-Americans all time:
Joseph Melto Quiah (2024),
Hjalti Sigurdsson (2024), Amass Amankona (2015), Chris Rolfe (2004), Denny Clanton (2003), R.J. Kazuba (2000), Bob Rohrbach (1975, 1976), Pat Obiaya (1966).
Sigurdsson is only the third Flyer to be named Academic All-American and All-American in the same year, joining Amankona and Kazuba.
