#UDMTEN Comes Up Short, 4-3, Against Richmond

The Loss Snaps Dayton's Four-Match Win Streak

MIAMISBURG, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's tennis team dropped a tight match in its Atlantic 10 opener against Richmond on Sunday, falling 4-3 to the Spiders at the South Regency Tennis Center.

UD jumped ahead thanks to a strong showing in doubles, with the No. 1 pair of Connor Bruce and Nikola Puric winning 6-2 and the No. 3 pair of Matt DeMarco and Ronit Hiryur rolling to a 6-1 victory. 

Richmond struck back and secured the match victory thanks to wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. DeMarco won for the Flyers at No. 2, 7-5, 6-1, and freshman Kyle McNally took a victory at No. 4, 6-4, 6-2. 

With the match on the line, sophomore Sai Dore fell in a fantastic bout at No. 6, 7-6 (1), 6-7 (5), 4-6.

UP NEXT
The Flyers return to action next weekend in Kalamazoo, Mich., taking on Illinois State on Saturday, Feb. 17, and then taking on host Western Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 18. Both matches are slated to start at 12 p.m.
