MIAMISBURG, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's tennis team dropped a tight match in its Atlantic 10 opener against Richmond on Sunday, falling 4-3 to the Spiders at the South Regency Tennis Center.
UD jumped ahead thanks to a strong showing in doubles, with the No. 1 pair of
Connor Bruce and
Nikola Puric winning 6-2 and the No. 3 pair of
Matt DeMarco and
Ronit Hiryur rolling to a 6-1 victory.Â
Richmond struck back and secured the match victory thanks to wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. DeMarco won for the Flyers at No. 2, 7-5, 6-1, and freshman
Kyle McNally took a victory at No. 4, 6-4, 6-2.Â
With the match on the line, sophomore
Sai Dore fell in a fantastic bout at No. 6, 7-6 (1), 6-7 (5), 4-6.
