VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The University of Dayton track and field competed in the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships at the Virginia Beach Sports Center on Friday and Saturday. The Flyers had multiple athletes reach the podium and several recorded personal bests. Abby Carter (5000m) and Kendall Johnson (long jump) won conference championships. Jadyn Haywood placed second in the 200m and third in the 60m. In the team competition, UD finished sixth with 66 points.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Kendall Johnson smashed her school record winning the A-10 long jump with a mark of 5.99m (19' 7¾"). The Tulsa, Oklahoma native was named A-10 rookie of the year, she was the only freshman in the conference to win a championship event this weekend.
- Abby Carter ran into the history books by winning the 5000m. On Friday the senior ran 16:53.05, which was the sixth-fastest time in school history. On Saturday she finished fifth in the mile run (4:57.14) and the 3000m (9:46.84).
- Jadyn Haywood ran her way onto the podium twice with a second-place finish in the 200m and a third-place finish in the 60m dash. The sophomore ran the second fastest time at UD in the 200m with a personal best (24.35). In the 60m, she ran the fourth-fastest time in program history (7.51).
- Lauren Santiago qualified for the 400m final on Friday (57.39) and then ran the fourth-fastest time in program history on Saturday (56.97) to finish seventh in the conference.
- Rebekah Conrad threw a personal best (18.00m) in the weight throw to finish fourth at the conference championship. The sophomore has put together a strong indoor season with four top-five finishes. The Butler, Ohio native also threw a personal best in the shot put (13.32m) to finish seventh.
- Raegan Ernst posted her highest score in the pentathlon with 3,098 points. The sophomore finished eighth in the conference with a personal best in the 60m hurdles and the long jump.
- The Flyers 4x400m relay squad (Lauren Santiago, Lianna Shakoor, Rayana Burns, and Kendall Johnson) set the school record and finished fourth with a time of 3:49.84.
