#FlyBoys On Short End of Slugfest with No. 1 Wake Forest

Dayton Smacked Four Home Runs In The Loss

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The University of Dayton baseball team fell in a slugfest of a finale against No. 1 Wake Forest, 9-6, on Sunday afternoon, with four home runs proving to not be enough to take down the Demon Deacons at Couch Ballpark.

The FlyBoys got home runs from sixth-year Nolan Watson, senior Michael Adair, and freshmen Ryan MacDougall and David Mendez on the day.

Wake Forest plated five runs in the second inning to jump ahead, but UD struck back an inning later on Mendez's first career long ball.

After the Demon Deacons scored four unanswered over the next four innings, but the Flyers came alive in the final two frames.

Watson slugged his first homer of the season and 12th of his career to plate a pair in the eighth inning. Then the FlyBoys came through with two more in the ninth.

MacDougall smacked his third round-tripper of the season to lead off the final frame, and two batters later Adair launched his first of the season with a man aboard to bring UD back within three.

The rally would end with the tying run in the on-deck circle.

Mendez finished the game 2-for-3, adding a single to his home run.

BY THE NUMBERS
6 – strikeouts for freshman Ayden Tran in 2.1 innings of work, a new career-best
