#FlyBoys Win Four-Game Series with 16-6 Drubbing of SDSU

UD Scored A Season-High 16 Runs On 12 Hits

DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team scored a season-high 16 runs in their final game against South Dakota State Sunday afternoon, toppling the Jackrabbits 16-6 to win the four-game series at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium.

SDSU struck first with a run in the second, but the FlyBoys answered with a four-run second inning powered by a three-run Eddie Yamin IV long ball to give the Flyers a lead they'd never let go of.

After the teams traded runs in the third, Yamin struck again, this time with a two-run single to push UD's lead to 8-2. Yamin finished the day with a career-best five RBI.

Junior Mason Dobie hit his first home run of the season to give the Flyers a 10-4 lead over the Jackrabbits in the fifth, and UD followed it up with a knockout blow in the seventh.

The first five batters of the inning reached, with senior Carlos Castillo hitting an RBI double in the process. The big blow came from junior centerfielder David Pedanou, who cleared the bases with a triple. When the dust settled the FlyBoys had jumped out to a 16-4 lead.

Dayton starting pitcher Ayden Tran had a solid outing, scattering five hits and allowing four runs in 5.1 innings of work. Senior reliever Eli Majick earned his second win of the season by throwing 3.2 innings and striking out six while limiting SDSU to just two hits. Senior Nick Rispoli struck out a pair in an inning of work.
