#FlyBoys Bats Erupt to Bury Eastern Illinois, 17-11

Dayton Had 13 Hits And A King-Era Record 16 Walks

CHARLESTON, Ill. – The University of Dayton baseball team scored nine unanswered runs in the seventh and eighth innings to comeback and defeat Eastern Illinois 17-11 in the series finale on Sunday at Coaches Stadium at Monier Field.

UD trailed by scores of 7-4, 9-5, and 11-8 at different points in the contest, but stormed back to take the lead in the eighth inning. Junior David Pedanou, sophomore Eddie Yamin IV and senior Michael Adair each tallied RBI base hits in the eighth, helping the FlyBoys win the series with the Panthers.

Dayton took advantage of some wild EIU pitching in the eighth inning, as a walk and two hit batters loaded the bases. Junior Mason Dobie welcomed a new Panther pitcher into the game by unloading his second career grand slam and bringing the Flyers to its final score of 17.

Senior Nick Wissman highlighted the pitching effort for the FlyBoys, tossing 3.2 innings and allowing just three hits while striking out three.

Only three Flyers had multi-hit games, as Pedanou and senior Carlos Castillo had three apiece and freshman David Mendez went 2-for-3 with four runs scored, three RBI and three walks.

In total, Dayton drew 16 walks on the day and reached base three other times courtesy of hit-by-pitches.
