NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Fifth-year senior
Matt DeMarco won a thrilling singles match at No. 2 to help lift the University of Dayton men's tennis team to a 4-3 victory over Lipscomb on Sunday afternoon at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.
After falling in the opening set 6-2, DeMarco battled back to even things with a 6-3 win in the second set. In the tiebreak, the Erie, Pa. native fought off two match points to ultimately prevail 7-6 (4).
Fellow fifth-year
Connor Bruce was victorious at No. 1 in quick order, 6-1, 6-1, and the freshmen duo of
Kyle McNally and
Mikkel Zinder secured the other two points. McNally won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, and Zinder took No. 4 by withdrawal while leading 6-3, 4-6, 5-2.
Dayton returns to action on Saturday, March 9 when it travels to O'Fallon, Ill. to take on Davidson in a neutral-site Atlantic 10 match. The Flyers will then take on Saint Louis on Sunday, March 10.
