#FlyBoys Outlast George Mason in Slugfest, 17-14

The Two Teams Combined For 31 Runs On 33 Hits

DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team powered its way to victory in the second game of its Atlantic 10 series against George Mason, 17-14, on Saturday, April 13th at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium.

The FlyBoys offense led the way, scoring multiple runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings. Sophomore Eddie Yamin IV and graduate student Nolan Watson led the charge, each hitting two home runs and finishing with three hits overall and driving in five. Watson scored four times in the contest while Yamin crossed home three times.

After George Mason plated three to start the game, Dayton roared back with a five-spot in their half of the first. The Patriots jumped back ahead with four unanswered runs, but the Flyers regained the lead for good with a five-run fourth inning.

The Patriots cut the Flyers' lead to just three thanks to a four-run eighth inning, but freshman righty Connor Fennell slammed the door by throwing a perfect 1.1 innings to pick up his first career save.

In addition to Watson and Yamin's performance, the FlyBoys offense had multi-hit efforts from Keagan Calero (3-for-6), Alejandro Cazorla (2-for-5) and Paxton Tomaini (2-for-5). Omar Daniels reached base four times thanks to three walks and a 1-for-3 performance at the plate.

Every Dayton starter reached base at least once, with eight of nine players in the lineup getting a base hit.

The two teams combined for 31 runs on 33 hits with 15 free passes (10 walks, five hit-by-pitch) in the contest.
