Softball To Host Northern Kentucky For A Single Game Tuesday

First Pitch Will Be 3:05 p.m. at UD Softball Stadium

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team will play host to Northern Kentucky Tuesday afternoon for a single game at UD Softball Stadium. First pitch between the Flyers and Norse is set for 3:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+. The game will be featured as part of the Atlantic 10 Conference SAAC's Mental Health Initiative "Moving More for Mental Health."

The game will also be available via live stats at Statbroadcast.com. Admission is free.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (20-17) posted back-to-back shutout wins at Fordham over the weekend to take the A-10 series, 2-1. The Flyers have now moved into sole possession of third place in league standings. Junior Maddie Kapsimalis (.367 - 4th A-10) paces UD's offense with 40 hits (t-7th), 33 RBI (4th A-10) and 22 walks (t-5th) while junior Emma Schutter (.307) has 39 hits (t-10th) and 25 runs scored (7th A-10). Sophomore Izzy Kemp (9-5) leads the Flyers' pitching corps with a 2.07 ERA (1st A-10) and 90 strikeouts (t-4th A-10) over 84.2 innings pitched.

SCOUTING NORTHERN KENTUCKY
Northern Kentucky (17-14) is coming off a 1-2 Horizon League series loss to Robert Morris at home last weekend and the Norse are currently in a tie for third place in conference standings. NKU's offense is led by Ella LeMonier (.386) with 39 hits, 21 runs scored and 13 stolen bases while Olivia Pastin (.307) has knocked out a team-best five home runs and collected 19 RBI. In the circle, Lauryn Hicks (7-7) leads the Norse with 87 strikeouts over 81.2 innings pitched.

SERIES STUFF
Dayton leads, 17-12
Dating back to March 22, 1995, Dayton has won 11 of the last 13 meetings in the series including picking up two wins at Northern Kentucky March 3, 2023. The pair first squared off on April 1, 1986 in a doubleheader at NKU resulting in a win for each team.

RPI RANKINGS
In the NCAA's final Rating Percentage Index (RPI) through games on April 14, Dayton came in at 159 according to NCAA.com. Northern Kentucky was ranked 207.

CAREER CRIMINALS
With two stolen bases in Dayton's first game against George Mason on March 16, graduate student Emily Daniel became the program's career stolen base leader. Daniel, who spent her freshman season (2020) at Wright State, now has 73 career stolen bases over 180 games played as a Flyer, surpassing Molly Meyer (66) who previously held the record since 2010. Junior Emma Schutter moved into Dayton's top 10 all-time stolen bases list last season as well and is only two behind Daniel in second place with 71 career stolen bases.

THREE STRIKES YOU'RE OUT
Over 239.0 career innings pitched, sophomore Izzy Kemp holds the program record for most strikeouts per seven-inning game at 8.44. For the 2024 season, her 2.07 ERA and .187 opposing batting average currently rank first in the Atlantic 10. The 2023 A-10 Rookie of the Year tallied 198 strikeouts and posted 9.0 strikeouts per seven innings last season, which ranked 24th in all of Division I.
