Offensive Outburst Lifts #FlyBoys Over Akron, 20-6

Eddie Yamin IV Went 5-for-5 At The Plate For UD

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Dayton baseball team blistered Akron on Tuesday afternoon, 20-6, behind a season-high 21 hits and four home runs, leading to a seven-inning mercy rule victory over the Zips at Skeeles Field.
 
In a game with many offensive highlights, sophomore Eddie Yamin IV topped them all with a 5-for-5 showing that included his 10th home run of the season, four runs scored and a pair of RBI.
 
Freshman phenom David Mendez went 2-for-5 at the plate with his first career grand slam, while graduate student Keagan Calero turned in a 3-for-4 performance with three RBI, and senior Paxton Tomaini, sophomore David Pedanou and freshman Ryan MacDougall each tallied two-hit games.
 
Graduate student Nolan Watson stayed hot at the dish with his eighth home run of the season, while redshirt sophomore Jacob Veczko hit a solo shot for his first career round-tripper as a FlyBoy.
 
Dayton jumped ahead thanks to a nine-run second inning, smacking six hits (including Mendez's grand slam) and reaching three times via walk. Two of Yamin's five hits came in the frame, as the first baseman singled and doubled in the inning.
 
The FlyBoys plated five more runs in the fourth inning, four in the fifth, and single runs in the sixth and seventh.
 
Senior Anthony Hattrup picked up the win for UD, his second of the season. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native tossed three innings and gave up one run on three hits. Starter Will Newell surrendered a pair of unearned runs on four hits in three innings of work.

UP NEXT
The Flyers are back in action on Wednesday, April 17 against Ohio University. UD and OU are now scheduled to begin play at 12 p.m. to attempt to avoid inclement weather.
