DAYTON - The University of Dayton baseball team jumped ahead early and held on late, topping Ohio University 7-5 at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
After allowing a run in the top of the first, the FlyBoys erupted for six runs in the home half of the inning on the strength of four hits and four free passes. Junior
Mason Dobie highlighted the frame with a bases-loaded single that plated a pair.
Â
Junior
David Pedanou created the offense for UD in the second, getting a hustle double to start the frame, then stealing third and coming home on the errant throw attempt by the catcher.
Â
The Flyers pitching stayed steady over the next five innings, when the Bobcats made it a game again thanks to a seventh-inning home run.
Â
Ultimately the early lead held, thanks to part to
Austin Brush, who picked up the save to close out the game.
Â
Pedanou led the way for Dayton's offense, ultimately finishing with four hits, a pair of runs and a stolen base.
Mason Dobie and
Ryan MacDougall also finished with multi-hit games, registering two apiece.
