Yamin Mashes As #FlyBoys Take Down Davidson in Series Opener, 11-6

Yamin Goes 4-for-5 With A Homer To Lead UD

DAYTON - Sophomore slugger Eddie Yamin IV hit his team-best 11th home run of the season to lead the University of Dayton baseball team over Davidson by a score of 11-6 on Friday afternoon at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium.

Despite Davidson scoring two runs in the first to grab an early lead, the Flyers struck back with a vengeance, plating a single run in the second and plating three more in the third. Yamin had a double in the second inning and added a two-run single to highlight the third.

The Wildcats regained the lead with a four-run fourth, plating four unearned runs.

Dayton did not stay down long, as senior Michael Adair knocked a double that brought in two runs for the FlyBoys in the fifth to tie the game. Fellow senior Paxton Tomaini came up clutch in the sixth, hitting a two-out RBI double off of the left field wall to give the lead back to Dayton at 7-6.

The FlyBoys were not finished, as a four-run eighth gave UD a comfortable lead. Freshman David Mendez reached via bunt and stole second to start the frame, then moved to third on an errant pickoff attempt and finished off the mayhem by beating out a throw home from the shortstop to extend Dayton's lead to 8-6.

Yamin IV followed up with his fourth hit of the day, a two-run shot to center field, pushing the lead to four. Tomaini, who reached via walk and moved to third on a bloop double by Alejandro Cazorla, dashed home on a wild pitch for the FlyBoys' fourth run of the frame.

Nick Wissman picked up his eighth win of the season after tossing 4.2 innings of shutout relief, recording four strikeouts and allowing just one hit en route to the win.
