History Made For #UDTF At NCAA East Regional By Bogues And Johnson

First Time In School History Two Flyers Qualify For The NCAA Outdoor Track And Field Championships

LEXINGTON, Ky. - It was a historic day for University of Dayton track and field at the NCAA East Regional, where for the first time in program history two Flyers in the same year qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Casey Bogues qualified for her second time in the javelin and Kendall Johnson became the first ever Flyer to qualify in the long jump. Both will now compete at the NCAA Championships held in Eugene, Oregon at Hayward Field in June.

COACH'S QUOTE

"To have multiple qualifiers for the NCAA Championships is an outstanding accomplishment by these two women.  Casey and Kendall have been nothing but astonishing this year, and their composure throughout the rounds Thursday solidified that.  It is extremely difficult to train all year to get only three attempts to make it to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.  This is the first time in school history that we have had more than 1 individual qualifier and we couldn't be more proud as a coaching staff.  We are extremely excited to get out to Eugene in two weeks and compete against the best in the nation.  We look forward to seeing how much more these two young ladies can still accomplish this year!" -Aaron Gordon-

"To bring two athletes to the regional and both qualify for the NCAA Championships, is a testament to the dedication of our team, training staff, strength and conditioning coaches, administrators and the entire coaching staff. The dedication that everyone has had in their training represents a great team effort. UDTF has developed into an elite program with talented athletes that have a proven track record of success." -Kevin Gilhuly-

NCAA EAST REGIONAL HIGHLIGHTS

Casey Bogues placed 12th in the javelin to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The three time Atlantic 10 champion will return to Eugene, Oregon after her last attempt landed at 48.29m.  The Red Bank, New Jersey native qualified for the Outdoor Championships in 2021 and now joins Mallory Barnes (Hammer Throw) as the only UD Athletes to qualify twice for the Outdoor Championships with Barnes making trips in 2010 and 2011. Bogues is the all-time record holder in javelin at UD at 53.80m and boast 12 career wins.

Kendall Johnson placed 12th in the long jump and was one of two freshman to advance out of the NCAA East Regional. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native tied for 12th with a mark of 6.16m, but advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships thanks to her last jump, which proved to be the tie breaker at 5.99m. Named Outdoor All-Rookie Team by the A-10, Johnson is the first ever freshman in Dayton history to qualify for the NCAA Championships. She is just the fourth ever UD athlete to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships joining Bogues, Barnes and Emily Borchers (Steeplechase).
