RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Dayton baseball team split its doubleheader at the University of Richmond on Friday, falling in game one, 7-3, while turning around to triumph in game two, 8-6, at Pitt Field.
Â
GAME TWO
Dayton 8, Richmond 6
Senior
Nick Wissman picked up his Atlantic 10-leading 10
th win of the season for the Flyers, throwing the final four innings and striking out seven. He came in relief for freshman
Connor Fennell, who allowed just one earned run on four hits in the first five innings of work.
Â
Sophomore
Alejandro Cazorla launched his sixth home run of the season to put the FlyBoys ahead in the second inning, but the Spiders eventually pulled even with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Dayton was able to capitalize on a couple of strange plays in the seventh inning to take the lead, scoring two runs on a
David Mendez fielder's choice to the shortstop thanks to a great slide by fifth-year
Keagan Calero and an obstruction call that plated junior
David Pedanou. Sophomore
Eddie Yamin IV rocked an RBI double to left field to plate the freshman Mendez, and when the dust settled on the inning the Flyers held a 5-2 advantage.
Â
UD tacked on two more runs in the eighth inning thanks to a sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Pedanou and they came in handy, as Richmond scored four runs in the final frame to pull within two. Wissman induced a weak flyout to finish the game and seal the victory.
Â
