DAYTON - The No. 22-ranked University of Dayton volleyball team is set to play an exhibition match at No. 9 Kentucky Friday, Aug. 23 at Memorial Coliseum.

First serve between the Flyers and Wildcats will be at 5 p.m. The exhibition is closed to the public and there will be no live stream or stats.

Dayton returns an experienced core from last season's team that went 32-3 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Leading the way will be AVCA All-American Lexie Almodovar, who returns for her fifth year for the Flyers. The Noblesville, Ind. native is the reigning Atlantic 10 and AVCA Midwest Region Player of the Year and averaged 4.38 kills-per-set a season ago. Senior setter Alyssa Miller returns for her fourth season of action after leading the A-10 with 10.55 assists-per-set a year ago, while redshirt senior  middle blocker Alayna Yates (.350 att%, 97 total blocks) also returns. Other familiar faces include outside hitter Taylor Russell (3.09 k/s, 0.45 sa/s), middle blocker Liana Sarkissian (1.41 k/s, 68 total blocks), libero/defensive specialist Karissa Kaminski (4.60 d/s) and defensive specialist Gaby Arroyo (2.21 d/s).

Five new Flyers enter the fold in 2024, with four freshmen and one transfer coming to the Gem City. Graduate transfer Alia Williams joins UD from LSU, while Corrie Anderson (Monument, Colo./Palmer Ridge), Sydney Barrett (Kings Mill, Ohio/Kings), Abbie Cresse (Fort Wayne, Ind./Blackhawk Christian) and Ella Joesting (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) have arrived on campus ahead of this fall's schedule.

The Flyers officially kick off the 2024 campaign by hosting the Dayton Flyer Invitational on opening weekend, Aug. 30-31. UD plays host to Northern Iowa, Florida International, and caps the weekend with a 7 p.m. match against RV Ohio State.
